May 2026 NYC Public Schools Family Update

NYC Public Schools has released important updates for families this May, including key information about the 2026–27 school year calendar, Summer Rising offers, admissions timelines, and upcoming events.

The 2026–27 school year will begin on Thursday, September 10, 2026. Families who applied for Summer Rising must accept their offer by May 5 through their MySchools account to secure a seat.

Several important admissions dates are approaching. The Gifted & Talented (G&T) application for Grades 1–4 closes on May 8. Families who applied to 3-K or Pre-K will receive results on May 12 (Pre-K) and May 19 (3-K).

We also celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week from May 4–8, a time to recognize the incredible work of our educators. Families are encouraged to share messages of appreciation and celebrate teachers across the city.

On May 20, schools will participate in Climate Action Day, with a focus on water, sustainability, and environmental awareness.

Lastly, Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place this month, primarily in the evening and mostly held remotely. Please check with your child’s school for specific scheduling details.
