Be Sure to Attend Our Annual “Welcome Back” Event!

At the beginning of each new school year, P.S. 211 hosts our annual “Welcome Back” event for all of our parents, students and new staff!

Our parents and students are invited to join our staff in celebrating the start of the new school year by visiting our school for a chance to connect with our school staff and receive additional resources while also taking part in some fun games and enjoying the provided snacks!

This event will be held on Monday, August 26th, 2024 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM for the 2024-2025 school year. Not only will our parents have an opportunity to chat with our wonderful P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary school staff and ask any questions that they may have, but they will also be able to meet and speak to our community’s local officials and agencies!

Get Ready for Academic Success By Having the Necessary School Supplies

The first step in being successful while in school is ensuring that you have the necessary school supplies. Every grade level has their own academic curriculum that is built with different lessons and activities in mind which require a variety of different supplies.

It’s extremely important that all of our students have the necessary materials/supplies to complete all of their classwork along with their homework each and every single day.

Our website includes a dedicated School Supply Lists section which provides our parents with information revolving around the supplies needed for each of the grade levels that our school serves. Our parents can also purchase these supplies digitally using our dedicated School Supply Lists Digital Purchase page!

More information can be found on our dedicated School Supply Lists page which can be accessed using the preceding links or the button(s) below:

Be Sure to Stay Up to Date with All of the Exciting Events Happening Within Our School

As a school community, we know that communication and staying up to date with the latest news and events is key to empowering our parents/guardians to do the best they can so that they can ensure our student’s success.

This is why we came up with the idea to create our very own Monthly School Calendars that we consistently update on our school’s website. Be sure to check out the Monthly School Calendars (Current School Year) Home Page to view all of the Monthly School Calendars for the current school year.

If you would like to view any calendars from any previous school years then please visit our P.S. 211 Monthly School Calendar Archives.

Please note that the New York City Department of Education also has their own version of a School Calendar that contains important information along with dates for the current school year. This section of their website also contains the calendars for the previous two school years along with a look at next year’s school calendar.

More information can also be found on the dedicated NYC DOE School Calendar part of our school website. Also, all of these links can be accessed via the buttons below:

P.S. 211 Principal Welcome Back to a Brand New School Year Letter

Dear Elm Tree Elementary School Community,

It is my honor and a pleasure to welcome you to the 2024 – 2025 school year! I hope all of you are having a relaxing and fun summer break. I am extremely proud to continue to serve as the Principal of this amazing learning community for the 8th year and to continue to support the students of Elm Tree Elementary School!

This new school year brings the promise of a renewed dedication, focus, and energy to the mission of teaching and learning. With that said, the Elm Tree Elementary School staff, our partner the Child Center of New York, and our PTA are ready to kick this year off in true Chipmunk fashion!

We are very proud of our rich traditions and of the educational accomplishments of our students, faculty, and community. At Elm Tree Elementary School, we strive to ensure our children are engaged in an environment focused on high expectations reflecting academic, social, and emotional development. I am especially motivated to sustain the positive culture of kindness, support, and collaboration within our building.

Our learners embark on their academic journeys supported by a highly skilled and dedicated faculty and staff. Each day, we focus on creating instructional opportunities that ignite curiosity and activate young minds.  We pride ourselves on a collective effort to achieve 21st-century excellence in an environment where children can reach their full potential is truly impressive. We will continue to set high expectations for our diverse, self-directed learners, encouraging them to be collaborative teammates, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens.

This year, we will place a continued focus on developing and fostering a love of reading, and on building foundational math skills to solve complex word problems. We are also committed to continuing our support for parents as leaders in their child's education and improving attendance measures to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Our strong programming is built upon the mission of Planning, Learning, and Growing Together. Growing student success happens when our staff and Elm Tree Elementary families work together. By embracing our CORE Values, of integrity, innovation, respect, trust, and collaboration, we can create the most beneficial learning experience for our students. I have seen the amazing results of this collaborative effort in each of our learning and connection opportunities.

This is, of course, the first of many opportunities for me to communicate with you. It is our desire to keep you informed of all that is taking place at Elm Tree Elementary School. Please visit our website on a regular basis for current news and upcoming events. Here you can find back-to-school information, including event dates and school supply lists.

If you have not done so already, please be sure to download our PS 211 Elm Tree phone application for school announcements and to receive our updates, including important back-to-school information.

My door is always open, and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call or email me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year. I look forward to working with you and helping each student at Elm Tree Elementary School meet their goals and have a successful school year.

Enjoy your summer and see you in the new school year!

Sincerely,

Principal Niven
