We strongly believe that our P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary School Phone Application is one of the best tools that is available for our parents due to the many features that are built into the application itself. 

Our P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary School Phone Application includes many features such as easy access to news, starting or joining a conversation with one of our teachers or school staff and even having the ability to visit our school’s website or various other Department of Education pages (such as the NYC Schools Account page or NYC School Meals page).

Go Through the Built-In Tutorial to Learn About Some of the Basic Features & Settings Included in the P.S. 211 Elm Tree Phone Application

When you open up the P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary Phone Application for the very first time you will be greeted with a pop-up window and message as you can see in the screenshot above. 

Clicking on the button that says “Let’s Take a Look Around” will start a very short tutorial that walks you through some of the very basic features of the application while also giving you a very brief overview of the settings menu.

The tutorial/tour covers the following basic features and settings:

• News - This is the news feed for Elm Tree Elementary School. All relevant information and updates from the school will show up here.
• Sidebar/Settings Menu (the 3 horizontal lines at the top right corner of the app’s screen - also known as the “burger” menu) - This is what’s known as the sidebar/settings menu. You can tap on this menu to access all of the features available within the app along with your profile and settings.
• Settings Menu (gear icon) - The settings menu (the one with the gear icon) will allow you to access your profile and settings section where you can change various settings such as your profile picture, language, notifications settings and even review the tutorial again.

Look Through the Sidebar Menu to Access the Settings & Profile Menu

You can access the Sidebar Menu by clicking on the 3 horizontal lines at the top right corner of the screen (this is also sometimes referred to as the “Burger” icon or button).

Here you can access your profile and other settings such as the language or notifications settings.

This will allow you to view the full Settings Menu (along with being able to view your profile where you can edit your name, change your profile picture, change your password or delete your account).

Overview of the Profile Menu

The Profile Menu can be accessed by clicking on the “Pencil” icon to the right of where your profile picture is (under the Sidebar Menu).

The Profile Menu allows you to do the following:

• Change Your Profile Picture - You can click on the “Change Photo” button to select a different profile picture directly from your phone’s photo gallery
• Delete Your Profile Picture - You can click on the small “Garbage Can” icon right above your profile picture to delete your current profile picture and revert back to the default blank profile picture
• Edit Your First and Last Name - You can click in either the “First Name” or “Last Name” box to change either your first or last name. Be sure to click “Save” to save your changes!
• Save Your Changes - You can click on the “Save” button to save any changes you have made to your profile
• Change Password - You can click on the “Change Password” button to change the password you use to log into your account when accessing the P.S. 211 Elm Tree Phone Application
• Delete Account - You can click on the “Delete Account” button to delete your account attached to the P.S. 211 Elm Tree Phone Application

Overview of the Settings Menu

The Settings Menu can be accessed by clicking on the “Gear” icon within the Sidebar Menu.

The Settings Menu has the following options available:

• Access the Profile Menu - You can access the Profile Menu by clicking on the “Pencil” icon towards the right side of the screen (located under the Sidebar Menu and to the right of the Profile Picture)
• Change the Conversations Settings - This settings menu allows you to enable, disable or change the following settings related to Conversations:
• Hide Your Contact Name within Conversations
• Turn Off Unread Conversation Reminders
• Change the Translate Language (which allows the phone application to adjust the language that you see whenever reading messages within Conversations) - PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS FEATURE IS STILL BEING WORKED ON AND MAY NOT FUNCTION AS INTENDED
• Change Your Availability Schedule - Choose which days in the week and hours that you would like to receive notifications while also alerting others when they attempt to send a message to you in a new conversation

• Change the Notifications Settings - This settings menu allows you to enable, disable and adjust the various notifications that the app sends to your phone. These are:
• Announcements
• Event Alerts - Daily
• Event Alerts - Weekly
• News
• News & Announcements
• Change the Language Settings - This settings menu allows you to change the language of everything within the app

• Calendar - Our parents can view a digital calendar within the app itself which will allow you to view the various events that we have scheduled
  • Click on a specific date will allow you to view the details of any events occurring on that specific date (days that include events are marked with white dots underneath the date)

• Staff Directory - Our parents can view our full staff directory by clicking on this button. This will redirect you to our school’s website where you can view all of the different staff members who work in our school and get to know a bit more about them!
• NYC School Meals - Our parents can click on this button to be redirected to the NYC Department of Education’s School Meals page which provides information related to school meals while also providing links to view the available menus for breakfast and lunch
• My Student NYC Account - Our parents can click on this button to be redirected to the NYC Department of Education NYC Schools Account page which allows parents to either log into their existing NYC Schools Account or create a new account
• Quick Links - Clicking on this button will bring you to our “Quick Links” menu where you will find various links to important websites such as any of our Social Media Sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube) or the NYC Department of Education Special Education Resources page

• Conversations - Clicking on this button will bring you to the Conversations menu where you can either create a chat or conversation with another teacher or one of our other staff members while also having the opportunity to join one of our many Public Conversations (such as a specific class or the P.S. 211 Parent Coordinator Conversation where our parents can speak directly to our Parent Coordinator) - PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS ARE NOT MEANT FOR PRIVATE/INDIVIDUAL CONVERSATIONS THAT MAY INCLUDE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
  • You can create or join a conversation by clicking on the “+” sign at the bottom left of the screen

• My ID - Our parents can ignore this menu as it primarily pertains to our school staff identification

• Quick Features - the orange bar at the bottom of the screen includes four (4) quick features that our parents can utilize to perform specific tasks and actions:
• • Phone Icon - Clicking on this icon will automatically bring up the direct phone number to our school so that you can easily call us
  • Calendar Icon - Clicking on this icon will allow you quick access to the digital calendar where you can view the specific month of the school year and see what events are occurring during that month
  • Email Icon - Clicking on this icon will open up your phone’s default email application and allow you to send an email to our school’s Parent Coordinator, Ms. Gisella Catarine
  • Map Icon - Clicking on this icon will take you to the Google Map view of our school’s location and allow you to access directions to our school directly through their phone’s default navigation application
