An Overview of of School Transportation
Here at P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary, we strongly believe that a big part of the Elementary School life is for our students to have the ability to get to school in the morning and back home in the afternoon in a safe and efficient manner.
There is a lot of information revolving around School Transportation when it comes to the New York City Department of Education and we are here to help to break it down in a way that will make it easier for our parents to understand and digest.
More information can be found on our dedicated School Transportation Overview and Information page which can be accessed using the preceding links or the button(s) below:
Options for Students Regarding School Transportation
Our students actually have several ways that they can get to and from school. Of course, our parents always have the option to bring their children to and from school in any way that they deem fit, however, there are some families that may be eligible for other options when it comes to School Transportation.
The options that our families have to choose from when it comes to School Transportation are as follows:
- Parents or Guardians bring their children to and from school themselves
- Yellow School Bus (if the family is eligible)
- MetroCard (if the family is eligible)
- Private Bus
- Specialized Transportation (Students with Disabilities ONLY)
More information can be found on our dedicated Transportation Options for Students page which can be accessed using the preceding links or the button(s) below:
The Perfect Way to Track Your Child’s Bus Rides To and From School
The New York City Department of Education is modernizing our school transportation system with new and exciting tools that our parents will be able to use to ensure that their child arrives to and from school in a safe and timely manner.
One such tool is the NYC School Bus Phone Application which allows parents with a complete overview of their child’s school bus whenever they are on their way to school or on their way home.
Some of the features that are included within the NYC School Bus Phone Application are:
- A way for parents to track any of their children while they are on a school bus (whether they’re going to school in the morning or home in the evening)
- A map view of where the bus currently is
- Information related to the school bus, it’s route and the driver
- Real time alerts during the whole transportation process
Requesting an Alternate Drop-Off Location for Your Child
Some families receiving Specialized Transportation may need their child to be dropped off on certain days at a different location from their home address, such as therapy sessions, childcare providers, or after school programs.
These requests are subject to availability and may not be provided based on the location of the requested drop-off and other factors; in general, requests for alternate afternoon drop-offs in a borough that is not in the same borough as the school or the home address will not be approved.
More information can be found on our dedicated Alternate Drop-Off Request (School Transportation) page which can be accessed using the preceding links or the button(s) below:
