P.S. 211 Fall 2023 STEM Newsletter (4th Grade)
Energy Conversions
Fourth Grade Engineers have been exploring their first science unit by gathering evidence from texts, investigating and collecting data using digital simulations, developing models and discussing their ideas with classmates.
In this unit, students will propose solutions to help a city named Ergstown with their system problems. They will do this by studying the following big ideas:
- as the speed of an object increases, so does energy
- energy is conserved as it is transferred and/or converted from one form to another
- when objects collide, energy is transferred
- engineers design, test and refine solutions
- energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and their uses affect the environment
We encourage you to ask your 4th Grade Engineer about what they are learning in class!
- What evidence have you found of energy transfers?
- What solutions have you thought of for the Ergstown blackout?
- Where does energy come from?
