September 15th, 2022 - NYC DOE Student Privacy Annual Notices Update
Dear families and staff of P.S. 211 Elm Tree Elementary School,
We would like to take this opportunity to update you regarding the NYC Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policies. We would like all of our parents to know that the DOE takes the confidentiality of information about students very seriously.
There are several federal and state laws, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and New York State Education Law 2-d, and local regulations, such as Chancellor’s Regulation A-820, that protect students’ “personally identifiable information” (PII).
These laws also place responsibilities on the DOE and outside parties that are given access to students’ PII, including the requirement for the DOE and schools to provide families with the following annual notices:
- Annual FERPA Notification (scroll to the bottom of the page for parent letter and translations);
- Parent Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security
Please visit any of the links above to be redirected to the official NYC DOE website where you can find more information relating to this topic.
We will also have more information on this topic in the near future on our website under the P.S. 211 Policies & Procedures section.
Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the week!
Sincerely,
P.S. 211 Elm Tree Family
